Add Layers of Texture with Bamboo Shades

One of the easiest ways to add texture to a room is by using inexpensive bamboo shades.  (This apartment owner added the ribbon trim herself.  This little project is on my “to do” list for our living room.)

What I love about bamboo shades besides giving rooms another layer of texture, is that they can work in casual and dressy spaces, alone or under other window treatments.

Bamboo Shades can be used to filter the light coming into your room. When privacy is needed, consider adding curtains as another layer. The combination really works well.

Bali Natural Shades in Coastal Living Magazine

Interior designer Blair Gordon chose Bali (R) Natural Shades, Cordoba Grasses (Color: Harvest) to make the most of his client’s beachy Key West cottage. In the article, Gordon said that the blind’s textures and warm, natural colors helped create the vintage character he wanted while still adding some modern style. And, with the top down/bottom up option, his clients can have privacy while still letting in some of that gorgeous Florida view and sunshine.

If you want to achieve a more natural look with soft, filtered light, these shades made from carefully selected woods, reeds and grasses might be just what you need. Check out the February issue of Coastal Living to see for yourself.
